A resident approach to redevelop the parks of Almere
Project for the student bachelor course ‘Atelier gebiedsontwikkeling (734201180Y)’ of the University of Amsterdam.
In the course the municipality of Almere launched a competition named ‘People create the green city’. In this competition students were asked for new ways to redevelop the city parks in cooperation with local residents and businesses.
Our proposal titled the ‘Almeretiatief’ was a process description of an open election of ideas for the redevelopment of the Kromslootpark. The entry was in line with the ‘City initiative’ of Rotterdam: residents were asked to propose their own ideas, after which city wide elections took place. Partial funding was realized through crowdfunding. The idea was divided in simple steps just like an IKEA furniture manual.
An inventory of ideas was made through a pilot of the project during a workshop with Almerenaren (citizens of Almere) in the city hall. These ideas were then combined in a design for where possible implications of the process were shown. With our entry we won the first place in the studio.
